One day tour „Mannerism-Baroque-Neoclassicism“
Dear guest, probably you won’t believe, but we really have the ‘time machine’!
During the one day tour to the southern region of Latvia – former Duchy of Courland, you will travel through three different periods and explore three wonderful palaces. Your ‘time machine’ will be very comfortable minibus that will transfer you from one palace to the next one and will let you forget the everyday problems and live through centuries from Renaissance to Neoclassicism in one day. The culmination of the program will be fascinating visit of Rundale palace according to the court traditions of 18th century.
Group departs from Riga. Transfer to Bauska.
First stop – Bauska Castle surrounded by a picturesque scenery is located on the land strip between the rivers Mūsa and Mēmele. The Bauska castle complex consists of two parts. The oldest of them – Livonia Order Castle – was built in the middle of the 15th c. while the newest – residence for the Duke of Courland – was built at the end of the 16th century.
You will be kindly invited to see The Livonian Order Castle ruins with a view platform in the central tower.
(If you have special interests in discovering Residence of the Dukes of Courland and explore Bauska Castle’s history exposition or exhibition of “Clothing and ornaments in the Duchy of Courland”(1562 – 1620) , we can include this option in your program.)
Transfer to Rundale
Second sight- Rundale Palace ensemble
The Miracle of Baroque art in an untouched country landscape. Former summer residence of Duke of Courland E.J.Biron, favorite of Russian Empress Anna Ioanovna. Palace was designed by the genious Italian architect Franchesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. It is the highlight of this sightseeing tour known as the Pearl of baroque and rococo style art in Latvia and Baltics.

Transfer to Mezotne Palace
The third elegant palace to visit – Mezotne Palace. Empress Catherine II gave this manor in charge of Charlotte fon Liven in 1795, who was the tutor of her grandchildren. The construction of the palace started in 1797 and until 1802 the beautiful and very modern Italian villa type palace was completed according to the project of Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi.
The Palace is surrounded by the wide picturesque English landscape park.
Transfer back to Riga
The program includes: entrance to The Livonian Order Castle in Bauska, theatrical excursion in Rundale Palace, guided tour in Mezotne palace, transfers.
We offer the transfer with very comfortable minibus (max 7 seats) – AC, audio, TV. During the transfers historical films will be demonstrated.
Optional: lunch (it is possible to arrange the lunch)
The program for such one day tour takes ~ 10 hours (including transfers and time for lunch). It is possible to change it to meet the desires of our guests. It is possible to make it more simple and shorter. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help and suggest some changes!
